Not less than a year ago, I aimed high with the lofty goal of spreading the Green Movement to everyone. And I mean everyone. To quote Little Nut Brown Hare from my favorite book to read to my kids, "That's very high. I wish I had arms like that."
Through the iterative process of trying to figure out how to pull it off, though, I've come to realize that there are more people who don't care than there are that do. But I'm not crestfallen by this realization. What also comes as part of this realization is that there are people who care. So let's focus on them. The stewards. The people who are trying to make our place in this world more sustainable.
And that's where we come in. If you're following this blog, you're likely one of those for whom environmental issues are already important. I'm going to care about you and what you care about. I'm going to support you in your efforts. And I'm not going to tell you how to green your life. You already know how--but I'll bet you'd like to discover some new tricks, just like I would, and you'd enjoy celebrating the achievements of others who champion sustainability and a conservationist ethic.
Thus, in my continuing iterative process with this blog and my identity as BluePlanet Dad, in addition to realizing that I can't teach the world to sing in perfect green harmony, I've also discovered mine is not to preach to the environmentalist choir. So I find myself with my feet back on the ground, doing the sustainability work as best I can and using every opportunity to teach my children to find their own way in environmental stewardship. May you find successes in your daily endeavors, too. I'd love to hear about them.
